Der Christmas Cup in Swakopmund bleibt für die Fußballer in Namibia in jeder Hinsicht das „Maß der Dinge“. Der sportliche Aspekt und die Organisation – alles vom Feinsten. Die SKW-Elf siegte im M+Z Cup – der SFC enttäuschte im Finale des Tafel Lager Cups.
„Besser geht es nicht“, meinte Martin Brosda, Jugendkoordinator des Sportklubs Windhoek (SKW). „Es ist unglaublich, was die Leute des SFC hier auf die Beine gestellt haben. Ich nehme das erste Mal am Christmas Cup teil und bin begeistert von dem familiären und freundschaftlichen Charakter. Ich bin optimistisch, dass wir als Sieger in die Landeshauptstadt zurückkehren“. Der SKW-Spielertrainer sollte Recht behalten und resümierte später: „Die mannschaftliche Geschlossenheit hat uns den Sieg eingebracht.“
Der 46jährige Windhoeker Richard Starke, der das erste Mal mit 18 Jahren an die Küste kam und am Christmas Cup teilnahm, als der SFC sein Domizil noch unterhalb von Café Anton hatte, freut sich alljährlich auf das Wiedersehen mit alten Weggefährten. Aktiv unterstützt wurde „sein SKW“ in diesem Jahr von seinen Kindern Sandra und Manfred, die durch sehr gute Leistungen überzeugten. Nomen est Omen – die Starkes sind eine starke Familie.
Injury list getting longer - Echelmeyer breakes rib - Tjiueza stabbed with knife - team departs 14h00 to Oshakati - 4. December 2010
SKW is currently being hit by many injuries. Yesterday it was Robbie Echelmeyer who broke a rib in a training match against Namibia's u/20 COSAFA side at the SKW stadium. Echelmeyer was heavily tackled by the young u/20 keeper and was taken to hospital.
The next bad news reached SKW two days ago when striker Simeon Tjiueza, nicknamed 'Otavi', was knifed down on his way home after training. According to Tjueza, six guys came from behind and hit him with a stone on the head, and when Tjuezea tried to defend himself he was stabbed twice with a knife. The men stole his cellphone and shoes. The SKW midfielder will only be available for the second round on the 2010/2011 season which restarts end January 2011.
Four weeks ago young Garren Smith tore his knee ligaments and is out for at least six months. Pitzi Eichhoff, who suffered a knee injury during a league match, will only be fit next year. At the moment only 14 players are available for the weekend's match in Oshakati while Larry Horaeb is with the Namibian u/20 team in Botswana to play the COSAFA cup.

So sehen Sieger aus – die Mannschaft des SKW gewann den Social M+Z Cup. Schnell sprach es sich herum: „Beim SKW spielt eine junge Frau mit.“ Die deutsche U18-Nationalspielerin Sandra Starke, die das 1:0 gegen die Coastal Lions erzielte, flößte mit ihrer gekonnten Spielweise den männlichen Gegenspielern gehörig Respekt ein. Gespannt waren die Swakopmunder Fans auch auf den ersten Auftritt der Blue Boys. Der Gastgeber tat sich schwer gegen den Rossing FC, doch der sehenswerte Treffer von Sheku Norgomo reichte zu einem 1:0-Sieg. Um den reibungslosen Ablauf des viertägigen Küsten-Events kümmerten sich vorrangig Sten Gebhardt, Klaus Kuhn, Gerald Güther und Tommy Zwar. Zudem waren zahlreiche ehrenamtliche Helfer im Einsatz, während die Windhoeker Brauerei und Metje+Ziegler als Hauptsponsoren auftraten.
Im Endspiel um den Social-Cup zwischen dem SKW und Atlantis stand es nach der regulären Spielzeit 1:1, dramatisch dann der Verlauf des Elfmeterschießens. Der 42-jährige Windhoeker Schlussmann Frank Schatz meisterte zwei Strafstöße und trug damit wesentlich zum Gewinn seiner Mannschaft bei. Den entscheidenden Elfmeter zum 3:2 versenkte René Traut. Im Endspiel des League-Cups zwischen dem SFC 1 und Celtic unterlag die gastgebende Elf von Gerald Güther mit 0:2. Der Führungstreffer für Celtic resultierte aus einem direkt verwandelten Eckball, Unglücksrabe Dieter Tietz machte mit einem Eigentor den nicht unverdienten Turniersieg für Celtic perfekt. After the loss to Ramblers last Thursday Dino Balotti resigned from all his duties at Sport Klub Windhoek. SKW Chairman of the soccer section Jochen Traut confirmed in a SKW meeting that he received only a SMS on Friday lunch time from Dino Balloti which read that he will put all duties down with immediate effect. The 24 year old Ballotti joined the Olympia based Windhoek club only at the beginning of the season 2010/2011. During his short stint he worked as NPL team manager and u/17 coach. He was the assistant coach for the Cymot SKW NPL team as well. Chaiman Traut said in the meeting that he wishes the youngster all the best for the future and more maturity.

Brosda appointed as new u/17 coach
Martin Brosda who also coaches the SKW CSL Team and the girls will be the new coach for the SKW u/17. Brosda is one of our coaches who got the ability to take our u/17 boys through to the Premier League. The u/17 is one of the most important age groups to close the gap between youth and senior level football.
Warning for NPL players
Meanwhile the football management had a meeting with the team on Monday to clarify certain issues. The SKW management requested an urgent meeting after the team’s poor performance over the last weeks. "We don’t want to have mercenaries amongst us - we want players that identify themselves with the club!" committee member Udo Riedel said in a speech to the team. The team promised to do all in their ability to get back on the winning road. The League is still long and nothing is to late, committee member Oliver Horsthemcke added. According to the coaches, the target to reach the top three did not change, "we will come back"...!

Kheister broke his arm in the last premierleague match against Blue Boys. Cymot SKW has to travel to the coastal town Walvisbay and will face Blue Waters. Kick off will be at 15h00 , Kuisebmond stadium. Mean while SKW keeper Ephraim Tjohonge who is in a splendid form and Alfred Ndyenge were invited in Namibia's Warriors squad which faces the Zebras of Botswana. The club hopes the invitation will boost Ndyenge's performance, which wasn't up to standard over the past weeks. Also did Ralph Ellinger hand back his captains armband, which newly promoted national keeper Tjohonge will take over till the end of the season. Ellinger said "lets try a change because sometimes a change works wonders".

„Dem SKW geht ein Licht auf“ – unter diesem Motto sammelte der Sportklub Windhoek (SKW) am vergangenen Donnerstag in seinem Vereinsheim Spendengelder für die Verbesserung seiner Flutlichtanlage und die Umzäunung des A-Feldes. Die Infrastruktur entspricht nicht den Standards der Namibischen Premierliga (NPL), sodass die SKW-Mannschaft ihre abendlichen Heimspiele im Independence- oder Sam-Nujoma-Stadion austragen muss. Vor diesem Hintergrund hatte der Sportklub seine Mitglieder bei einem Brunch am 31. Januar dieses Jahres um finanzielle Unterstützung gebeten, wobei knapp 50 000 N$ zusammenkamen. Da diese Summe noch nicht einmal die Kosten für die Aufrüstung der Fluchtlichtanlage decken konnte, stellten Vorstandsmitglied Harald Fülle, Sport-Manager Martin Brosda und Assistenzmanagerin Tania Panton ein weiteres Sponsoring-Event auf die Beine. Die zündende Idee: Firmen und Privatleute können einen Teil des in Rechtecke aufgeteilten SKW-Spielfeldes gegen eine Geldspende für die Dauer eines Jahres erwerben. Die Gesamtspendensumme beläuft sich nun bereits auf 115 000 N$, wobei noch etwa 30 Rechtecke zum Verkauf stehen. Former Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) midfielder, Dieter “Idi” Zimny, won the respect of his opponents and admiration from football fans across the length and breadth of the country with his darting runs and uncanny knack of scoring goals from tight angles. However, the stocky attacking midfielder is one of very few footballers from yesteryear who had not featured in the prestigious South African Provincial Currie Cup Tournament despite putting in near faultless displays regularly for the Germans in a flourishing football career stretching over two decades. Dieter joined Imawida from Tsumeb Football Club in 1977 and has been with the club ever since and still plays the social odd game with SKW Old Boys whenever time permits. He was a key figure in his team’s highly disputed win over Orlando Pirates in the final of the Mainstay Cup in 1979, and now looks back with a measure of mixed feelings over what unfolded on that fateful day.
Born in Windhoek 55 years ago, young Dieter relocated to Otjiwarongo with his parents at the age of 9 and began his football career at the predominantly Afrikaans-speaking Otjiwarongo Primary School. “There was a strong German community in Otjiwarongo and as you know Germans love their football and would not settle for anything else. We played football at school and after, because in those days there was not much to do, so the only thing to keep ourselves occupied with was playing football,” recalls Idi.
Despite his relatively small frame, Idi was banging in goals as an old fashioned centre forward and his goal-scoring prowess caught the eye of the technical staff of Otjiwarongo Manschaft. Aged only 16 and barely out of his pair of shorts, Idi found himself thrown into the deep when he joined the likes of Peter Bruhnert, B Wurm and Bernie Fassbender under the stewardship of coach Udo Hennig for a taste of top-flight football. “We played in the National League against strong opposition such as Ramblers, Otavi, Sparta, Atlantis, SKW, Talpark, Wanderers, Okahandja Manschaft, Kombat, DTS and Olympia. It was a tough league but we were very competitive despite the limited number of athletes we had at our disposal. The only time we played on grassed fields was when we travelled to Windhoek or Walvis Bay.”
As a youngster, Idi as Dieter was affectionately known among his team mates and football circles in general, was capped twice at youth level when he represented South West Africa in the annual South African Provincial Under 16 Youth Tournament in Kimberley and Pretoria respectively during the schools winter holidays. Some of his team-mates were Holger Guttenmeir, Herbert “Shorty” Lohmeier, Gert Meyer and Fritz Grosse-Weschede. “It was a very competitive tournament for youngsters but we put up a great showing and won some tough encounters that always left us in a respectable mid-table position.”
Upon completion of his high school studies, Idi was called up for the mandatory national duty and he joined the South African Army. He was stationed in Pretoria with the Medical Corps unit and played football for the Medical Corps team. He was selected for the Northern Transvaal Invitation where he played for a year before he enrolled at the University of Pretoria (Tukkies). He became a valuable member of the Tukkies Football team before he came back to his native South West Africa after a year.
Idi found himself in Tsumeb but the strongly built midfielder kept a low profile and would only feature casually for Tsumeb Football Club. He later moved to Windhoek and had a short stint with Windhoek City, which campaigned in the competitive South African semi-professional second tier league. It was not long before City ceased to exist and Idi followed some of his team-mates to join forces with SKW, alias Imawida, where he teamed up with Siggy Hacker, Ian Wood, Ian Buchanan, Ingo Hoebel, Wolfgang Fleischhammel, Vic Lovell, Freddy Graupe, the Ahrens siblings, Hasso, Uwe and Gernot.
His arrival at SKW coincided with the amalgamation of the various football leagues that led to the inevitable birth of multi-racial football in the country during the height of apartheid. Idi did not waste time and made an instant impact in the star-studded SKW line-up as he made the number six jersey his own property. “Football was totally different in those days while the interest from the black community was absolutely amazing. We used to draw large crowds, notably when we played against the likes of African Stars, Orlando Pirates, Tigers and Black Africa at the old Katutura Stadium in the popular double headers. It was great playing football in front of such big crowds, although we had some difficulties but we managed to cope with the situation and carried on under trying circumstances.”
Idi admits the black teams gave them some sleepless nights with their unmatched football skill on the ball. “They had very troublesome and skilful athletes and players like Oscar Mengo, Doc Hardley, Albert Tjihero, Ambrossius Vyff and Doc Naobeb were absolutely phenomenal. I enjoyed playing against African Stars under the supervision of coach Dieter Widmann. Stars were technically superior and more importantly, disciplined – as opposed to other teams – and played simple direct entertaining football. It was always a challenge playing against the Katutura teams – we were quite popular wherever we played. The nicest part of it was that we played football for the love of the game in the absence of money.”
Idi was a member of the SKW team that was controversially awarded victory after a green table decision in the ill-fated Mainstay Cup final match against Orlando Pirates at Windhoek’s Stadium in 1979. Pirates won the match 5-3 after extra time but football authorities resolved to declare SKW the winners after the Ghosts mysteriously arrived 45 minutes late for the kick-off. “Looking back at it now, I think it was a very sad decision although Pirates brought the game of football into disrepute by arriving late. In fact, we should have wrapped up the game in the last minute of regulation time when we were awarded a penalty which Hasso (Ahrens) tamely directed at the goal keeper – forcing the match into extra time with the score board level at 3-3.” Idi won some silverware with SKW, including the Clemence Kapuuo Knockout Cup after the Germans despatched African Stars in the final via a penalty shootout at the Show Grounds in Windhoek. On missing out for selection in the Currie Cup Invitation, Idi has no regrets and admits other midfielders like Oscar Mengo, Doc Hardley, Grey Umati, Ambrossius Vyff, Ivo de Gouveia and Doc Naobeb deserved to get the nod ahead of him in the pecking order.
He says modern football has lost its spark though it has improved in many aspects. The game has certainly improved tremendously with lots of emphasis placed on fitness and speed, which unfortunately limits the athletes’ mobility to showcase their talents on the ball. “The game is hopelessly too fast nowadays as players are not given enough time and space on the ball to demonstrate some ball trickery and entertain the crowd. I very seldom watch football these days – it’s more like kick-and-run stuff and just not exciting anymore.” He cites Oscar Mengo, Hasso Ahrens, Albert Tjihero, Ian Buchanan, Siggy Hacker, Ian Wood and Freddy Graupe among his favourite footballers during his generation.

The SKW Youth Soccer Academy gains momentum. As the photo shows, nearly all players still attended the u/7 final which was late on Sunday with all the parents still having a long journey home.
From SKW perspective it was a solid tournament, we are at the moment playing very attractive football and are trying to always play the younger players in an age group. This principle is also applied to our u/17 NFA team, which consists of eight u/15 players and the team is after all amongst the top three in the.
Our aim is to develop football in the youth and not winning cups, which doesn’t mean that we are not trying to. All our coaches as well as the players and their parents more and more understand our concept. Our kids of all walks of life, grew over the past three years together and are standing side by side for the same aim - to be a good footballer when reaching the age of 18 and to be loyal to the club. We are not catering for accommodation nor transport and all our boys and girls made a plan to be at the field on time.
This shows the social responsibility our player learned to respect. What is concerning, however, is that there are only a few real clubs in our elite league while most of the teams are only teams decorating themselves with FC, and at the moment SKW is the only club complying with the FIFA Windhoek declaration.
This is a milestone for the SKW Soccer Divison, but the Namibian football stakeholders should practice what is preached and the benefits will be reaped in the years to come.
People must realise the before you earn you have to spend, if it money or in kind. Football is real life!

The fourth edition of the Ramblers tournament which is combined with the Delta School Windhoek tournament was a fruitful one for Cymot SKW. Three teams bringing home gold without loosing a single match, while SKW u/9 were only beaten in penalties in the final. Both tournaments were organised very well. At the Ramblers tournament it was the age groups u/7 till u/13 showing off, while the Delta Secondary School invited the u/15, u/17 boys and girls. According to SKW’s Rolf Beiter very good football was displayed especially in the elder age groups. All results and photos can be viewed on Tournament Page.

Kakuva calls players to report on Monday 1 August 2011 at 18h30 – five players of the SKW u/17 included
Lesley Kakuva will again be given total and sole control as Cymot SKW head coach for the season 2011/2012.
Cymot SKW will take up training coming Monday, 1 August 2011. Harry Januarie, part of the green and white outfit since 2007, will also be part of the coaching team mainly as goal keeper coach for the upcoming Premier League season. He is already training successfully in the youth as well. The coaching team will be completed by several coaches from the youth academy who will assist the SKW head coach during the season if needed. Still on board is Rolf Beiter, but this season Beiter will stand a bit in the background due to work commitments and the SKW youth. According to Lesley Kakuva, SKW will have trials for about 14 days and then the squad will be trimmed to 24. In several strategy meetings held during the past weeks it was decided to have a wind of change: the squad will be revamped completely, with lots of young players to take over from the not-so-hungry regulars. The whole world is following this route, our national team introduced young players, so the Olympia boys are following this trend. This strategy gives more stability to both players and club in view of commitment and loyalty. This continuity also applies to the technical team. January did like the mentor Kakuva two years coaching in the SKW Academy before being exposed to the NPL. Jochen Traut will act as team manager for the upcoming season which will leave the chairman post vacant for the moment. Who will follow in the footsteps of Traut will be decided at the AGM of the Soccer Division late August. SKW enters a feeder team into the second division to build up young players and get injured players back faster on the highest level. This is the last step to fill the gap between the NPL side and the youth. It makes SKW the first club to fully comply with the international FIFA statutes of a club.
SKW is currently negotiating with the NFA that players can be shifted between the amateur and the professional side as is done in the rest of the world. SKW will be the first club since Independence to enter two sides in adult football.
563 Archers with 184 coaches and officials from 56 countries participated in the WAYC in Legnica. Sebastian Fechter was selected to represent Namibia in compound cadet men division.
In the greens of the City Park the sports complex was used for the event. Two soccer fields with 60 butts were used during competition. Practise butts were on another field in the stadion, were the medal matches took place as well. It was a well organised championship, congratulation to the organisers of Poland. The recurve archers had a full FITA round as ranking round and the set system for eliminations. Compound archers shoot a 720 round at 50m as a ranking round and then eliminations.
Sebastian ended in the ranking round on 40th position out of 52 entries in compound cadet men with a score of 659. Bridger Deaton of USA was first with 699. For Namibia Sebastian has achieved a top score. Well done.
In the elminations he started off against L. Pardini (Italy) ranked 25th. Sebastian 139 lost against Pardini 144. At the end S. Hansen (Denmark) achieved gold, R. Domanski (Belgium) silver and A.Davarci (Turkey) bronze. For further results visit www.archery.org/livescores/ .
In overall Sebastian was ranked 33rd with other archers at the end of this event. An excellent achievement for a first time at a world archery championship.
The next WAYC is set 2013 in China. I hope namibian archers prepare well in advance and that we will be able to sent 3 archers per division, that we can participate in team events too.

Youth soccer tourney attracts 650 players - by NEW ERA
WINDHOEK – A total of 44 teams and over 650 young footballers players were in action at the annual Cymot Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) Youth Soccer Tournament in Windhoek, last weekend.
The youngsters competed in various age groups starting from Under-7 up to Under 17 in the boys and girls sections. The youth tourney received a financial injection of N$15 000-00 from Retirement Solution Funds. The competition was played over three days from Friday to Sunday and for the very first time, a team from the far south Rosh Pinah (U/13) entered the competition while Swakopmund FC represented the coast with Otjiwarongo FC the only entry from the north. The 4th edition of the annual tournament is one of the biggest annual youth football events on the Namibian sports calendar since its inception in 2008.
In the Under-7 age group section, matches were played on a round robin basis and the opening match saw Ramblers coming out tops followed by Otjiwarongo and Swallows. Rammies also had the better of the proceedings in the Under-9 age group leaving Otjiwarongo and hosts SKW to pick up the pieces for 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
However, Ramblers had to play second fiddle to KFA Rosh Pinah in the final of the Under-11 age group, going down 1-0 while SFC triumphed against Otjiwarongo in u/13 age group.

SKW Football: Ralph Ellinger new chairman for the year 2011
At the SKW Football AGM, held on 20 September 2011, the soccer division continued the youthful change in voting 32-year young Ralph Ellinger as new chairman for the year 2011. Mr. Jochen Traut, now Cymot SKW NPL team manager and our representative of the Namibian football by serving on the Board of Governors (BOG) at the Namibian Premier League, convinced his committee to search for another chairman. At the end Ellinger was given the vote of confidence. He is an energetic, dynamic person and to link up with the youth he is just the right man to understand the modern youth for the future of the club. Re-elected to serve on the football committee were Jochen Traut, Udo Riedel, Harald Fülle and Rolf Beiter. The new members completing the 2011 committee are Günter Ling and Richard Starke. Ling will be the link between the SKW main club and the soccer division while it was seen with a delight that Starke is back after a year break from SKW football.

AT the beginning of September, three trial matches were played at the Sam Nujoma stadium, with the FNB u/17 Legacy boys and girls teams battling it out against Okahandja Beauties and African Stars.
The games were the culmination of a one week training camp that was held earlier. The camp began with a motivational talk from Bradley Wehrman, the Namibian Premier League Player of the Season. The team underwent basic football as well as technical training, complemented by a life skills session presented by Harold Kandjii of the Nawa Life Trust.
The training camp and subsequent games stemmed from the FNB Legacy u/17 Football Festival that took place on 16 and 18 June 2011.
A team of boys and girls to represent FNB Namibia in South Africa at the Lukas Radebe Festival was also announced and these teams will participate at the festival taking place from 2 to 8 October 2011.
FNB Communications Manager Dawn Humphries said: “The girls played very well against their formidable opponents, while the boys also showed class and maturity against the premier league superstars. Many changes and replacements were made in the second half to assess players in different formations and combinations. The opponents’ coaches, Jacky Shipanga for Okahandja Beauties and Bobby Samaria for African Stars, were very impressed with the quality and technical ability of the FNB Legacy u/17 players.”
